What is the difference with assuming and legally changing the name?

Changing your name may require the wedding certificate once you've signed the marriage license at the ceremony. Once you get your marriage certificate 3 months later, it will be required to change your surname officially to his with the proof shown for driving license, health and SIN. You may then use the surname for the taxes purposes. I'm not sure if the idea of changing your name now will allow you to be used for the tax return.
