Ceremony venues

Megan, on February 6, 2020 at 18:54 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 10
Hi,

My fiancé and I have possibly found our reception venue but we can't hold the ceremony there. We're having a difficult time finding possible locations for the venue that's not a wallet buster. Whenever we use wedding wire vendor search it gives us reception locations not ceremony and it also keeps giving us recommendations for places like Calgary which is way too far. We want to stay in Edmonton, preferably either downtown or in the west end as that's where the reception will be. Any suggestions?

Have you considered an outdoor ceremony? if so drive around your venue and see if there are any nice parks that you could set up a ceremony at

Any venues that are near by a hotel or a hall that has space availability to hold the ceremony for the day. Hopefully its not far and your guests have transportation.

I'd love an outdoor wedding I'm just worried about weather (mostly winter coming early)

Would you be looking for an indoor venue or open to an outdoor one? (Had my wedding Oct. 5th and it although we got TONS of rain - the actual temperature wasn't that bad (around 10°C only).

If so, what about a park or a garden?

Lorelei hall in castle downs. Its a good size and reasonable price. My friends just got married there. Also look into pirates rugby club on the N.E side 153 ave just off the henday. There on a huge slot of land with no neighbors in sight and an awesome outdoor fire pit and the wood was included. Baturyn hall witch is also in castle downs is one my FH mentioned. Hope this helps. I'd look into pirates ruby club first. I think its an awesome hall with a good chunk of land.

I did, they gave only four suggestions that don't really fit with what we are looking for.

I'm from New Brunswick so I'm definitely spoiled by all the old buildings and historic spots.
Have you asked your venue for any recommendations?

    Thank you Amelia,

The venue is a private golf course and won't allow an outdoor ceremony or change the room over. We have the option of reception/ceremony combined but my fiancé hates that idea. Unfortunately there isn't much in Edmonton for old architecture that isn't expensive. (I'm from the east coast so all the new buildings throw me a bit) I've looked at the libraries but they are either too small or too modern looking for me. We are planning a fall wedding and while I'd love an outdoor ceremony I can't trust the weather here

Hi Megan! Welcome to wedding wire.

I'm not from Calgary so I don't know any specific places but I would look into spaces near your reception venue like parks, public gardens, theatres (rehearsal spaces can make a great ceremony spot!) or even court houses, public libraries could be cool too (especially if they have interesting architecture or historic features). Are there grounds at your venue for an outdoor ceremony?
Is the reason you can't use the venue that there isn't space to do both the ceremony and the dinner set up? I've heard of venues charging extra for the switch over but never that they wouldn't allow both.
