Ceremony Time

Hank, on April 28, 2021 at 07:44 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 6
For those of you eloping/doing a ceremony only this year and postponing/canceling the reception, what time are you having the ceremony? Does the venue restrict what hours you can have it (i.e. the Catholic church) or can you do it anytime of day?

In my experience, non-Catholic ceremonies tend to take place between 3-5pm followed by a cocktail hour. But without that cocktail hour or reception, is anyone doing it earlier in the morning to accommodate a family lunch or pushing it later to coincide with golden hour/family dinner?

Our venue did have a scheduled ceremony time that is in their contract. We had our wedding for 4:30pm which was still beautiful with sunshine and great weather.

Fortunately my parents and sister are just one time zone over in Alberta so it was 4pm for them. But my brother and sister in law are in Germany so it was midnight their time! We checked with them first to make sure they were good with the time. They were troopers and even stayed up to zoom with us for dinner afterward. I think they finally signed off at like 3am their time Smiley surprise

I know you had out of town family so did you need to accommodate different timezones as a result?

I would also like to aim for golden hour wedding photos but for a September wedding, that means it'll be around dinner time (7-8pm). If we're not doing any type of dinner with family, we can probably swing it but if we do, it would suck to make everyone wait.

Same! This doesn't fully answer the question but our ceremony on our wedding day was at 5:30 pm but we did our short legal ceremony on our original date (second Ontario lockdown) at 3pm so we could get golden hour photos during and after! It was December 31st and outside so we only lasted an hour 🤣. We had chocolate and champagne and then our families drove home (it was at a park outside our venue which is 40 minutes from most of our families homes). We stayed at the hotel there to enjoy a perfect NYE as newlyweds!

Our ceremony only wedding was last year, but we had it at 3pm. Sunset that day was a little bit after 4 and we wanted to take advantage of golden hour during the ceremony and post-ceremony family photos. It timed out perfectly and we were all getting into our vehicles right around sunset. We also wanted to have time to take our photos together before the ceremony without having to wake up insanely early, so it was a noon start for photos and I woke up at like 7am.
