Ceremony pa system?

Denae, on April 18, 2023 at 14:29 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 4

Hey all, I'm looking for some ideas here. We have a portable speaker we plan on using for music before the ceremony. But I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on like a microphone to help amplify our voices? We don't have a dj but do have access to a pa system. Just hoping to do something smaller like a mic to a phone and portable speaker? Not sure, might not work the way I want it to. Let me know what you've done or your experience. Smiley smile

I've done stuff with sound systems at a summer camp, and when we'd do stuff outside, we'd usually just plug two mics into the speaker directly. The speaker we were using, one of those ones that has colourful lights from Costco (ION Total PA I believe), had two mic inputs and bluetooth, so we'd use bluetooth if anyone wanted to play something (sound effects, a song), and the mics for the main part. The volume could be adjusted right from the back of the speaker so we didn't need to hook up the mixer.

For my wedding, we'll probably use a mixer since we want to have a digital piano outside, and will be using a different speaker as that has to be rented from Long & McQuade. They have all sorts of cables and adapters to rent too if you don't have bluetooth.

For connecting something with a headphone jack to play music (phone, laptop, etc), you'd either need a 3.5mm to 1/4" cable, or if you have a mixer, it's best to use RCA to 3.5mm if it has it.

Depending on how many and what kind of "line in" connections the PA has, it will connect your inputs (music, microphone) to the speakers. It might allow you to change the volume of each input independently depending on the model.

Can you connect a microphone to your PA system? You could lower the sound and keep it a distance away. That’s what a friend did for her outdoor ceremony, the PA system remained at the dance floor. They also didn’t have a dj and worked well.
