Celebrating Anniversaries!

Amanda, on January 13, 2021 at 13:33 Posted in Before the wedding 0 12

Hi everyone! Anniversaries are a big deal for my fiance and I. We always do something to celebrate another year together. How do you and your significant other celebrate anniversaries?! Or how do you guys celebrate wedding anniversaries?!

For my fiance and I on our 1 year anniversary, we had gone to this amazing fine dining revolving restaurant that is on the top of a hotel! (La Ronde) We had a 6 course meal that was to die for!

For our 2nd anniversary we took a road trip to Jasper for a few days. Spend the days hiking and exploring our amazing mountains that we have. We went on the Jasper Skywalk, which is a glass floor observation platform lookout that is suspended over a 900ft drop! If you're not afraid of heights, I highly recommend this attraction!

For our 3rd anniversary, we had gotten tickets from Airmiles to see Shania Twain! She happened to be playing 2 nights in our city in 2018 and it happened to land right on our anniversary! This was probably the best anniversary we had together!

For our 4th anniversary, I had won a night stay at the Fantasy Land Hotel in West Edmonton Mall from The Wedding Fair that had come to town earlier in the year! So we had used that night stay on our anniversary and the next day since we were already at West Edmonton Mall, we decided to go to the World Waterpark! If you guys ever get the chance to go to West Edmonton Mall, I highly recommend going to the waterpark!

For our 5th anniversary, since it was in May and during a pandemic, we stayed in, ordered some take out, had some wonderful wine and watched a couple of movies!

We have celebrated our Anniversary very simple and quiet as its not a huge celebration for us.

The only thig we did for our 1st anniversary is be with parents (my parents technically) to celebrate lunch and cut the top layer cake saved from the wedding.

Other anniversaries have been celebrated at home quietly over dinner.

We went out for a nice dinner for our first anniversary. For our second we went away for the weekend and got engaged. We got married on our third anniversary! I hope this year we can do another little getaway.

Our 12th anniversary is coming up in a week (yes so long I know 🤣) .. for the first couple years, we would go on a little trips and quite honestly I don’t really remember each one anymore lol . I can say though that as years went by, it’s been more relaxed. We will probably just order take out and spend the night in, watching Netflix for this particular anniversary 😂 Just keeping our fingers crossed we can finally get married and make it “official”

I can't say we are an anniversary couple. I don't think either of us has a date in mind for an anniversary. We started dating sometime in July or June? Not even sure. So once we actually get married I guess we will need to put some thought into anniversaries 🤣

My FH often works out of town, and of course May (our anniversary) is his busy season. Because of that, he's often not around during our actual day of anniversary. Although he usually makes it up to me either before he leaves or when he comes back, and we go get desserts. That works for me! A couple memorable ones have been ice cream tacos and driving around to 4 different donut shops.

Another big thing that we do every anniversary (and birthdays, Christmas, Valentine's) is make our cards to each other. They're always handmade and we write everything sappy inside, usually with a drawing of something funny as well. We date the inside and have both kept every card from the other person. On occasion we will go back and read them for a good laugh.

Those are all wonderful anniversary celebrations! Love them all! Usually my fiance plans the dates but when I had told him about going to see Shania Twain for free because of our airmiles, he was totally in!

I'm the one who plans our anniversaries so I really had to dig through the brain archives just to make sure I'm not confusing what we did on our anniversary with her birthdays hahaha. Our anniversary is really close to Christmas so unless it landed on a weekend, we don't take trips anywhere.

1st anniversary was dinner at a local French restaurant tucked away in a residential area. I remember having duck confit and frog legs (mmmm).

2nd anniversary was a seafood feast. It was the first snowstorm of the year for us, which made the rustic style restaurant especially cozy. We had seafood based soups, appetizers, entrees, and a ton of different kinds of oysters before taking a walk in downtown Toronto.

3rd anniversary finally landed on a Friday and I took her to an overnight stay at a spa with an outdoor hot and polar pool. We lasted exactly 5 seconds in the polar pool in middle of snowy December lol.

4th anniversary landed on a Saturday so we made a weekend of it. Christmas lights at Aurora Winterfest, followed by a hot pot dinner (she loves hot pot - she wants it even during the summers) and a breakfast buffet the next morning before skating at the park.

5th anniversary is the one where I proposed. Took her to a bed and breakfast in Cobourg where we saw the Christmas lights and explored Port Hope a bit before popping the question on the Rotary Foot Bridge.

6th anniversary was a takeout feast because of the pandemic. We ordered from eight different local spots and ate while watching Great Family Cooking Showdown on Netflix.
