Yeah the storage is not fun (especially in a 750 square foot condo lol). I bought a bunch of really big vases on Facebook marketplace before COVID and I have tons of candles and now I’m storing them in my closet until who knows when!

It was definitely the candles that jacked up the price, not so much the holders. Floating tea candles would've reduced the cost significantly but I find the cheap ones go out really quickly and halfway through dinner service, a good chunk of the candles would probably be blown out. But the real reason I didn't entertain the DIY route for this is because we would've needed over 400 candles and holders for our original plan of 250 guests. And I reaaaaaaaallly didn't want to store 400 glass candle holders at my place, nor set that up myself lol.

If you rent it’s definitely pricey! But if you DIY it’s a lot more affordable. Dollar tree sells the vases for $1.25 each and then if you do floating candles it’s very affordable. Pillar candles are a bit more but they’re relatively cheap from IKEA. Plus if you DIY you can resell and recoup some of the money back 🙂

I saw a wedding on here that did a ton of candles in various heights as their main decor and I inquired about pricing for such a setup from a number of decorators and it would be a big expense. This was back when we were going for 250 guests but with our reduced numbers, it could potentially be doable.

I had found 6, 9, and 12 inch tall ones at Dollarama. Michael's has taller ones but they were too expensive for my taste!

We used pillar candles instead of floating candles, but I arranged them in the same sort of clusters with tall and short mingled together.

Vases for centerpieces can be as tall as you want. Keep in mind your guests may not see each other if its really tall beyond 15". We had a simple set up of a square vase about 11" with a floral ball on top. Inside was coloured waterbeads and LED immersable lights. Here is a picture of it. (bottom) 2 of the same by chance.

My cousin had large centerpieces as they chose these: (top)

If you want to put them on the floor you’ll probably want some that are larger. For example the tallest vase in the second photo is probably around 20” high. For tables I’d go for 12” and under because you still want to be able to see over them.

We're doing this with our vases and votives (it's fairly common). We're using 5", 9", 12" for the hurricane vases. 4 (1 large, 2 medium, 1 small) per table. I bought mine off someone on a local wedding Facebook page but you can find them at Dollarama and Dollartree.Candle centrepieces 6
