Cakes Versus Cupcakes...

Chelsea, on December 20, 2018 at 00:51 Posted in Wedding reception 0 10

... and how much you paid. I'm having about 80 people coming and I'm not sure which route I want to go. If I do cupcakes... There just so cute! But if I get a cake I can get it for less because I'll just get a slab of cake and cut a "fake" one. Huge savings!

Which route did you go and why? (and how much in the Brandon area!)

We’re doing a small one tier cake to cut with 3 dozen cupcakes for $100! We have dessert included in our meal and are making a few of our own cupcakes to mix in.

I was actually worried about that, but after getting a quote and eyeballing the fake cake that we want to cut it's only going to cost us about $80 to a slab! The design we picked out for the fake cake is so simple we're going to dress it ourselves.

We are doing cupcakes. When looking for cupcakes I found most places charged between 2.50-3,00 per cupcake. You may not find it as cheape as you think to get a fake one to cut and a slab to serve. Because it still takes time to ice a fake cake. Also remember many places will charge you a fee to cut and serve the cake.

I foind the cuocakes to be cheaper and we get more flavours. Also less hassle since there is nothing to cut.

My mom is making a cake for us that we will cut just to take pictures and to give each other a bite of cake haha! and then we will just serve cupcakes and other treats! I don't want to worry about cutting a cake and serving it or hiring someone to do that - Ill just eat the cake myself the next couple of days hahah

I think that people are more likely to eat cupcakes rather than cake. From what I have heard anyways.

I had ordered a basic 3 tier cake and assorted pastries enough for 75 guests. I didn't want to go cupcakes as it would be a bit larger and wasted by the end of the night. The menu we chose had dessert and something small as a second choice to offer our guests. Total came out to $400.00.

We are having a small two tier (my sister insists on two tiers so we can keep one for our first anniversary...and since she's making it, I'm not going to argue) for cutting and serving the head table, and cupcakes for our other guests. Best of both worlds!

I will be going with just a simple one tier cake for the purpose of the cake cutting ceremony. I don't see it costing more than $40-$50 for that but I haven't looked into it much as my wedding isn't until October and I would be completely fine with a cake from Safeway Smiley tongue

At the end of the day the guests really won't care how they get their dessert - they just care that it tastes good and that they get some.
