Cake pricing

Monika, on November 6, 2019 at 10:20 Posted in Ontario 0 16

What should I expect to pay for cake? I will have 200-250 guests. I do not want anything fancy/no fondant. I just want a simple vanilla/buttercream cake.

Any recommendation on where to get cake in the GTA?! Preferably Milton, Cambridge, Guelph, and surrounding area

Thanks!

We also don't want anything fancy. The bakery we are going with (which is awesome and I've always gotten my birthday cakes from them 😊) has a price they charge for wedding cakes and a different price for birthday cakes since they are typically smaller/aren't tiered. We are only having 30 guests and I was told their small two tier cake which serves 36 starts at $189. Instead we are either just going to do two round cakes (we didnt want a tiered cake) or a small round cake as our cutting cake and two quarter sheet cakes. The first option will cost about $90; second will cost about $105.

Yep for us - we are only having around 80 people but our cake is set to feed 50. We are paying 350$ plus set up and delivery and we are in KW.

My cake was ~$650 (delivery included) and fed ~100 people. There was no fondant, but it was 3 tiers and had berries and scrollwork on cream icing. Honestly, I believe the price was based on size/number of people it fed and not so much the filling or covering.
I got mine at Irene's Celebrity Cakes, and I was really happy with how it looked and tasted.

Okay, well for a display cake/ a cake for you to do cake cutting I would say that the prices I was getting quotes for when we were looking into that option ranged from $40-$80 for a simple single tier Smiley smile

I'm getting my cupcakes and a 6" mini cake from Sweet Cheeks Cakes in Milton. Rachelle is the owner and she's very accommodating to my requests and she's also really helpful with giving her own opinions and ideas on things too. She also gives you a complimentary tasting. I'm not sure what her pricing is for cakes alone, but I'm getting 8 dozen cupcakes plus the 6" buttercream cake for roughly $300 and the flavours are to do die for!

I still want the cake to be displayed. I just don't care to have layers of fondant and designs. Yeah I would probably want enough for everyone just in case. Thank you!

If you don't mind having sheet cakes that no one sees you can probably feed everyone for less than $1-2 per person. If you want a tiered display cake you'll pay more.

We are doing a small round for display and cutting and a sheet for guests. We were quoted a little under $175 for 75 people at a local bakery in NB, but I'm still looking.
Cupcakes are usually more, the lowest I could find we're $3 each!!

It depends - you can go to Costco and pay like $50-$100, if you go to a baker, you could easily be at $400-800.

A good baker will ask you how many people you're having and do a little less - because they know not everyone eats the cake. That's what my baker did, but we're doing cupcakes for guests.

Like a sheet cake or two? I would say the cheapest place to go for good cake would be Costco (as far as I'm aware). According to Google a half sheet cake from costco which feeds 48 people is less than $20 so I would say all in all you are looking at around the $100 mark? Are you looking to have enough for everyone even though not everyone will eat it?
