Cake/cupcakes

Meagan, on April 1, 2021 at 15:32 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5

Hello!

My venue provides 2 desserts but my fiancé loves cake and still wants a cake or cupcakes, since we have 2 other desserts should we still get enough for 1-2 servings per person or should I account for 75% of the guests or something like that?

Thank you in advance Smiley smile

Since your fiance really wants cake I would make sure there is cake! If you go the cupcake route, get to-go boxes and encourage guests to take leftovers home. Have your emcee or DJ invite people to take desserts home so they know it's ok and that there are boxes for them.

My fiance and I's dinner comes with mini desserts but we are also having a cake for our wedding. I don't want to look back on our wedding day and wish I had a cake if we decided against it just because dessert is included with our meal from the venue.

It's totally up to you on how much cake you want to have. We're making sure that there's enough slices for each guests and if we have leftovers, so be it! More for us to enjoy after the wedding!

Our meal included a plated dessert or dessert bar and included in our venue package was a cake (or cupcakes or combo). I make cakes and cupcakes as a hobby so the cake was a huge deal to me. I was BEYOND excited for our custom designed delicious cake from the baker, so when we found out we'd only be able to have 50 people and our option was to pay extra to still have the three tier cake or do a smaller version, we said f**k it, when will we ever get this big cake again - and I was so obsessed (still am) with the design and idea of it - let's just pay the extra and we'll have tons for ourselves after and for the freezer 🤣 we do not regret it at all! That being said - we did have a lot leftover, as cake was also cut late, so yes you could account for less guests OR have lots leftover for yourselves to enjoy ☺️!

If your venue is already serving dessert, you do not need to have the full cake serving for every guest. It is very likely that a bunch of people won't even touch it. All my friends who got married suggested not to get a huge cake if we're having other dessert. They were pressured into getting a giant one by families who wanted to ensure it looked humongous for the pictures (and save face for "etiquette" since they wanted to ensure everyone could get a piece if they wanted one - even though the couple knew most wouldn't). Every single married couple I know ended up having to take home more than half the cake.

We're having a catered 4 course meal that includes dessert. We had originally planned to have full sized cupcakes 1-2 per person, plus a little 6" cake for FH and I to cut. But now that we've had to downsize our guest list since last year's postponement we went back and forth on whether we needed the cupcakes now. So we compromised on mini cupcakes enough for 2 per person. I actually like the mini cupcake look for our display better now too. So it all worked out!
