Buffet Order for Long Harvest Tables

Hannah, on December 16, 2019 at 20:32 Posted in Wedding reception 0 8
Hi everyone I’m looking for ideas for how to call up guests for the buffet - we are having long harvest tables with 36 guests at each (140 people total). Since we can’t do the normal route of calling up small tables at a time, I’m looking for ideas on how to organize the buffet order. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I like the idea of colour coding names at their seats - but if you aren't having assigned seating then perhaps you could just section the tables off like I did? Although we had about 3 long tables put together to seat 24 we had 3 table numbers on the table to section it off at 8 per "table".

If you're looking for a way to designate groups, you can put a coloured border on each person's place marker (usually a name tag, though it can say something else, or even say a group name). Then you can have your MC call each group e.g. "Look at the tag on your plate. It will have a colour on it. We are going to call you up by colour group!" or any other categories you want to use. You can make sure that your immediate family guests of honour go up first, and then you can either just call out the other groups systematically or you can have them play games to win their way up to the buffet!

To avoid people sitting and standing/people standing when they’re not supposed to, you can have people be standing and get their plates before turning to their seat. It’s a bit of a wait but if you structure the food placement, the line will move quickly

Hmm that might be a good question for your caterer/venue. They'll likely have some good options. But if you're doing speeches during dinner, I'd probably recommend getting food early for whoever is speaking so they can be more or less done eating by the time they have to get up for their speech.

    Hi Hanna,

I would start with the elderly, better yet have the younger ones make their plates. Then the wedding party and their partners. Continue on with the remaining tables one at a time.

I never done this but this is what I would do.

Either you can make your plate first or you can wait til everyone is served first to plate yourself and hubby.
