Brunch wedding-music

Bell, on March 28, 2018 at 19:05 Posted in Wedding reception 1 9
Hi there,

We are having a brunch ceremony and reception in September. I am curious as to what others have done re music options. We certainly want to have music at the reception however are unsure if we will go with a dj, hire a musician for light background music, or simply play an ipod. We are having a smaller wedding 75-80 ppl. I even kicked around the idea of renting a juke box or a vintage record player to make it more interactive. Our reception will be less formal and structured but we still need things for our guests to do for 4.5 hours aside from eating (food stations and buffet) and mingling. Suggestions as to ideas for music and dance? We have a budget for music of less than $1000. Ideally closer to $500

Thanks Joey! I think I will focus in on the juke box and see if we can maybe rent one for a reasonable cost.

I also had under 80 guests and my reception started at 1pm so I was worried people would not dance, but I was proved totally wrong! ALL my guests were on their feet dancing the whole time, and I have an older family and really did not think they would be up for dancing, especially in the afternoon. So, all that is to say, I wouldn't assume people won't dance just because it is daytime, and if you want a dancing and partying feel for your reception absolutely go for a dj or band who will play that type of music (but who will also read the room and tailor their choices to the crowd).

A juke box also sounds really cool though, don't rule that idea out yet!

If you're dancing, I'd have a DJ.. DJs are good at reading the room and can also be your MC!

However if no dancing, then an iPod or one of the things you suggested could do the trick.

I agree with Holly a DJ is nice if you’re having a dance but to save money I would do the jukebox or iPod. I love the idea of the jukebox for interaction!

I think playing off your iPod will be great. It'll save u plus u can really pick your own music that way it'll be more geared to your wedding theme etc. You can also ask your guest to what music they would like to hear. For when guest stars eating light soft music is more appropriate so they could talk and hear each other.

You could ask around if your some of guests whom you're close with if they would be want to dance? Or see what your bridal party says about it?

Also; it's not a crazy amount but there is a difference in costs for playing music with or without the possibility of dancing

Thanks Holly and Lydia. Really appreciate the feedback. Yes, I forgot about the photobooth! We are planning to set that up, and we were also thinking of some lawn game type options modified for indoors...

I think i just need to make up my mind about dancing or not 😊

Love the idea of both the musician and the juke box! I think the musician fits perfectly with the small brunch wedding, but the juke box adds that interaction like you mentioned. If you want to encourage guests to get those and dance then maybe the DJ option would be ideal, give them like a more mellow and calm list for the brunch so people can still socialize without the music interrupting, then a dance list for the dance of course. You could also set up a DIY photobooth, props and what not and then people can take pictures on their own phones or you can provide like a cheap digital camera for them to use. This is a cheap way to get a photobooth as entertainment. For the music to stay in your budget then you should probably go with IPod or jukebox. DJs and Musicians are expensive even for short periods of time.

We'll be having a brunch wedding as well and are just gonna go for an iPod played background music. It really cuts costs and we're not doing a dance anyways (tho our venue does offer to lay out a dance floor if we'd want it). I don't know if you guys, or your guests, are into it, but we're gonna put out a lot of board games and maybe lawn yard games outside for things to do. Maybe that's an idea?
