Bridal Shower Prizes

Kelsie, on January 30, 2020 at 12:42 Posted in Before the wedding 0 13

I have a question for all of your amazing people!

My bridal shower is rapidly approaching and for a plethora of reasons it has been the biggest pain to plan.

We're having minimal games/prizes at my shower (3-4) because I really don't like them when I go to other showers. I prefer to mingle and chat. For my prizes, I also don't like taking home trinkets from showers - I know that sounds horrible. I won cookie cutters one time and I don't even know where they are - I will never use them.

So I thought I came up with (what I thought was) a brilliant idea - I will give gift cards as prizes! Gift cards for things like gas, walmart, etc. etc. so people can actually get use out of them, instead of a trinket they'll just throw away.

What are your thoughts on gift cards as prizes?

Soap I would actually use! If it was Bath & Body Works - I might give some soaps away that match my theme, if I can find them somewhere lol

But I do prefer gift cards - just seems more practical.

    Love it!

I find gift cards go a little farther than little trinkets, or even little edibles.

My step mom did 2 boxes of Lindor Chocolates for prizes, and then gave away the centre pieces.

My mother in law did the same thing, and then she bought little candles for prizes.

I honestly find that the chocolates were better received.

Hey, so you basically described my shower lol! We only had 2-3 games since I'm also Team Mingle and Chat, and I also don't like getting/giving trinkets.

We had a bottle of wine as one of the prizes, of course this works best if the majority of your shower guests are of legal drinking age lol. We had some under 19, including my flower girl, who's 6, so we had a box of chocolates if one of them won (my flower girl won a prize for real!) Another prize was a manicure kit (nail polish, hand lotion, nail file, etc). I definitely love the idea of gift cards as prizes, I would get a variety of different ones.

I feel the same way. I'm not particularly fond of competitive games and extrinsic rewards. As a guest in the past, I've always felt that at some point it became about winning and affected the overall purpose and enjoyment of a bridal shower. That being said, I know other people enjoy those types of games/activities and prizes are understood as tokens of appreciation. My MOH and I are brainstorming games/activities and I have put together enough items for seven self-care baskets. I think gift cards are also a great idea.

I usually appreciate the little trinkets, but I’d also appreciate a Starbucks gift card.

Our office Christmas party has prizes and every year the most popular are the gift cards. People appreciate a box of chocolates or a bottle of wine but the gift cards always get chosen first.

I totally agree and I would rather get a gift card than something I'm not likely to use.
Movie passes and lotto tickets are also a hit!

Thanks for your input Tori! Maybe I'll buy some non perfume scented soaps - there is one guest who has extremely high sensitivities to any scent.

I think it's more than fine, most showers I go to (including mine) just had shower gel and soaps as the prizes which are great for people like me who love them - but not so great for people who may be alergic or have sensitivities I suppose.

Thank you for your input! I probably won't tell people about gift cards beforehand but I agree - trinkets are usually forgotten or thrown out!

Hey Veronica! I'm glad to hear the gift cards went over well! My FH came to the rescue as mediator and suggested for the smaller prizes we could give away bath and body works soap (who doesn't need hand soap?!) and the larger prizes we could do gift cards.

We're giving away mini champagne bottles as favours!

I did this when I was Maid of Honor for my best friend at her bridal shower. I just did minimal coffee gift cards (Starbucks, Tims etc) and it went over great. I did do little gift bags for everyone to take home with chocolates and hand sanitizer and such - however I am not sure anyone really cared for that haha!

I love the gift card prizes idea! It makes it more worthwhile winning Smiley tongue

Plus, your guests will be more into the game if you decide to let them know beforehand what the prize is.

Yes little trinkets will be quite useless and like you mentioned, will be forgotten.
