Bridal shower

Hello,
my cousin is getting married and I’m following soon after. What do you recommend as a timeline for when to have the bridal shower? Her wedding is August 24, 2019

Just to clarify to everyone. The concern was not how close to plan them. Simply, my cousin expects me to plan hers (reasonably since I’m in her bridal party) so I wanted a timeline as to how many months prior to the wedding I should plan it. I mentioned my own for context. I’m a new bride and have no idea what I’m doing, so getting help for her will help me get an idea for my own wedding.

Hope this helps. I’m well aware that they are a year apart, I just wanted a timeline.
example: 2 months prior to wedding

There is a year difference of your cousins wedding to yours. If you have one now and then another next year.

Let your cousin enjoy her shower day this year with her friends there too.

Next year can be yours since you have time and your list will include your friends that will be there to enjoy.

I can understand if the wedding were months apart this year and it was being combined as one to cut the cost and both her friends and your friends there at the same time.

If she’s getting married in 2019 and you’re getting married over a year later in 2020, then you can have your shower 3 months before your wedding and be fine.
If you put the wrong date and are getting married a month after your cousin, I’d suggest having your shower a month or two before your cousins wedding. I know that it’s technically supposed to be closer to your wedding date, but I feel like that’s too close. Mine’s on May 26 and my wedding is on August 4.

Thanks! Just trying to figure out when to plan hers so that when it comes to mine I also have a better idea.

If you are getting married a whole year after then there shouldn't be any problems... did you mean 2020 for her wedding?

Either way, a shower usually takes place 6 weeks before the wedding in my experience.

Congrats on the engagement by the way!

I had to do a bit of digging, since I'm not too familiar with bridal shower etiquette and timelines! It looks like this website says you can have your shower between 2 months to 2 weeks before the wedding. So you definitely have lots of room here! But I'd definitely avoid the week before and after your cousin's wedding, just to give shared guests a breather!

I would check with your cousin to see when they're having theirs, so that you have a better idea of when to plan yours.

IMO, either beginning of August or mid-September would work just fine!

    Happy Planning!
