Bridal (or Wedding) Shower Prize Gifts/Favours

Kelsie, on September 23, 2019 at 09:44 Posted in Before the wedding 0 20

Me again!

My mom and my FMIL are getting together in the next few weeks to start planning my bridal shower. My mom wants some input from me however for the bridal shower prize gifts and favours.

Here's the thing - I hate favours (except edibles). I hate that the bride and groom (or whoever for that matter) spend money on gifts for guests that are likely never used and/or almost always thrown out, or forgotten. I don't mind edible favours but my FH said no, which I don't understand but in any case - I digress.

My mom is very traditional though and wants favours, and my FH's family seems to get offended if there aren't any favours. So it seems, they are expected, so my mom and FMIL will get them.

I have NO ideas guys. None. Zip. Zilch. I've received stuff at showers like cookie cutters (which, although practical, I have never used), my FSIL had cutting boards at her wedding (never used) and bath salts at her shower (never used again). So even practical stuff, I've literally never used and I hate filling people's homes with more stuff.

I'm at a loss.

What are some prizes you've had at your showers? Or, if you haven't had one or didn't do gifts, what would be something you'd actually be excited to take home?

Thanks WW Community - I'm forever grateful!

Though I've never done a bridal/wedding shower, I've helped plan and run a few baby showers. Some of the ideas we did, which you might be able to translate over:

Honey jars with those honey spoons and a tag saying "Thank you for Bee-ing here"

Mini-Manicure kits - It had tweezers, nail file, nail clippers, and some nail polish with a few cotton balls. etc. The nail polish was probably hit or miss if people used it, but I know they used they other stuff.

Herb Seeds/starter plants - I think another poster already suggested flowers...we went the Herb route. We figure everyone good use them in cooking

My mil did succulant flowers in a cute tea cup with saucer for one prize. she did tumblers with some vinyl written to do with our bridal shower, she did a date night small package. People seemed to really love them. When I have one things at bridal showers I have literally never used it again- a frog for a garden, and some random items

I got mini bottles of wine made from Vinbon they have a few locations. It’s costing about $4.25 a bottle with labels.

We had candles as the favours for my shower (big hit). Aside from that, I can't think of anything other favours that I've liked that weren't edible!

I honestly don't remember having favours at my shower - there were some prizes for game winners, but I don't remember what they were.

For shower favours, I like the soap idea, but if some people have scent sensitivities they wouldn't use it. Same with scented candles.

Could do flower seeds? Have a cheesy rhyme that says: shower us with love and watch us blossom!

I also am a edible-favour person - I'm fine with that and nothing else!

Oh yes, Ontario has favours for everything (much to my shagrin!) !! I'm sure if we did an engagement party (we didn't and won't) we would've had to have had favours.

I think you're right and I just need to be simple. I might stick with the soaps, and bathroom stuff for the prizes and maybe do champagne or something for the favours. See how my suggestions go over.

Although we didn't do favours at my Wedding/Bridal shower - our prizes were shower gel! I would stick to that theme and not think too much into it tbh. I have never been to a wedding/bridal shower where we got favours so...?

What if mini bottles of champagne to take home, with a little box of chocolates, or cookies.

I don't think so - if anything it would be something revolving around champagne (because we're doing a brunch with mimosas), i.e. brunch and bubbles, but my mom thinks themes are cheesy - so I'm not counting on a theme.

I think that's why it's so hard lol.

Is your shower going to have a theme? That could help you narrow down some ideas.

I just had one shower this weekend and my MIL did "XO" salt and pepper shakers. For prizes she did some with diffusers and tea towels.

I have another shower this Sunday and its a high tea, so the favours are loose leaf tea.

I do like the soap idea, I'll just have to also find some non-scented items as well, lots of my FH's family has issues with scents.

I'd have to think about that - I'm not sure I'd use it, so I'm not sure anyone I'm inviting would...definitely an interesting idea to keep in mind though - thank you!

I went to a couple bridal and baby showers that had soap as a favour (either a bar of soap in a little box or one of those small Bath and body Works body washes) with a little cheesy tag saying "From (name's) shower to your's". that may fall into the category of not being used by some though as now thinking about it I haven't used those soaps yet.

What about something like flavoured olive oils? Sort of an edible, but not really? I know I'd get excited about something like that!

My mom actually suggested this! I'm definitely interested in doing it - I'll have to check if there are some scent free ones, as many ladies have sensitivities to perfumes and scented soaps.

I just went to a shower this weekend and her theme was Lemon - which sounded different at first but it was actually super sweet. Her favours were lemon foam hand soaps from bath and body works. They often have promotions where if you buy more you save more. I thought it was a great way to reduce the cost of favours but also have an item that will be used. I already used mine this morning.

Edit: They also had lemon shaped sugar cookies with our names on it as name place cards for the tables.

I wish! Edibles to me are a nice in between, because people will use them, but my FH said no Smiley sad so the search continues.
