Blending Families and Teenagers

Whitney, on November 14, 2022 at 09:56 Posted in Wedding ceremony 2 5

Hi all! My wedding in August 2023 will officially blend our family. We've been living together as one family since March 2020, but we want to do something special to include our kids. I'm looking for suggestions and recommendations of what works (and what doesn't).

Just as an extra note - both our kids (my daughter and my fiance's son) are 16 so we're looking for something appropriate for their ages.

Thanks!!

The sand jars sounds a great idea to have the whole blended family do together. Different colours and taking turns to create something creative at the ceremony.

I love this!! Ive seen Sand jars, everyone gets a colour of sand to pour in on big jar and its the blending of the family. Ive also seen giving the kids/teens tasks they feel comfortable with from ushers to welcoming people at the guest table, speeches etc. Ask your kids what they feel comfortable with and what they may like to do and try and work it in.... like if theres a son and daughter... maybe a special dance just for them with the parents??

I feel like just including them in the planning, ceremony reception is a great way to let them know they are and always will be a part of the family and they too get to be a part of the special day.

Give them readings to read or let them stand next to you. Make them apart of this big day, it's not just your day it's there's too.

Love this. I just got married this weekend & my husband and I wanted to include our (re: my daughter) in our wedding as well. When we exchanged gifts before the ceremony he sent something over special for my/our daughter as well that she wasn't expecting & we had a section added to our ceremony service after the ring exchange that talked about today was about more then just him and I but that oue daughter (name was entered here) played an important role in the combining of our family as well. It was a really special moment.
