Beverages for the Reception- Help!

Tabrina, on June 25, 2018 at 12:08 Posted in Wedding reception 0 11

I don't know how much pop (or ingredients for punch) to buy. Our wedding will be dry as it is out of town and a good chunk of family on both sides cannot handle their alcohol. We do not want to risk family members drinking and driving nor can we afford the alcohol as we are also on an extremely tight budget. We are looking at about 150 people. I understand that not many people will stay late with it being dry and therefore I am unsure how much to purchase. Any suggestions would be great, and no we are not going to change our minds about the alcohol.

We’re not having alcohol at our wedding either. We don’t drink and are having a cultural event so we don’t want alcohol there. Plus we don’t want any drama!!! I’m glad to see we’re not the only ones.
im going to have lunch at our dinner and then buy pop and water from Costco. We always have pop for other family events so whatever doesn’t get used will eventually be used!

No problem! I was trying to figure out how many drinks I should budget for (we are doing a restaurant wedding), and had to research how much an average person drinks at a wedding. haha Hopefully this helps!

I think Costco is definitely your best bet for this! There are drink calculators online, but I think the general rule of thumb is 1 drink (non-alcoholic), per hour, per guest. So, depending on what you are serving them in, that would give you an idea as to how much to buy. Buying too much is always better than not enough. And with Costco you can return unused items. Have some choices of drinks for your guests. Sangria is made wirth wine and choice and hard luquor served with citrus fruits. Gin and tonic. Cranberry juice with orange juice for an alternative drink.

A menu that beat fits your budget and drinks that will be a hit to come back for at the bar.

I agree with Gina. Go with somewhere that allows returns, and then you don't have to worry about waste.

Remember many people don't drink pop (you know your family, so kind of gauge it by experience), so make sure you either have jugs of water, or bottled water available.

I would budget maybe 2 or 3 cans per person, as some will drink more, some will drink less... places like Costco will have the big flats you can get to save on cost too.

I would by it from somewhere like Costco. That way you can buy a lot, and return whatever you don’t use! It’s better to have to much then not enough, and you can’t beat Costco’s return policy. Nothing wrong with a dry wedding at all!
