Barbeque Wedding Reception Meal

Krista, on August 7, 2018 at 19:50 Posted in Wedding reception 0 6
We’re having a casual wedding at the family cottage. Only parents and siblings are invited, so there will be approximately 25 people (30 including kids who will be all under 5 years old). We have a tent rented, as well as tables and chairs. We’re not sure the best way to go about cooking the food...Originally we were thinking we would ask a few of the males to barbeque the meat/potatoes for the main (we’re picking up all the food and the sides) but we’re getting the impression they would rather not. We looked at hiring someone, but the cost gets quite high. Any thoughts??? We live in Nova Scotia but are getting married in PEI so we don’t know anyone to ask. We welcome any suggestions from those who have also done something similar!

This is what I found when I googled PEI. I didn't really look ok at it too much but they may be able to travel. I would definitely look at restaurants though. I was surprised to learn that the lower deck in Halifax catered. If you have a favourite restaurant I would ask them.

Thanks Brittany and Alexandra! That’s actually the option we’re looking at now. Trying to plan from a distance is challenging in this regard as we would like to ask them face to face if this is something they would be willing to do. As we’re not locals, we suspect they would say no if we ask by email or phone. We’re going over to PEI in a few weeks so fingers crossed!

Thanks Kaisha. We’re getting married in PEI which is a province of only 152,000 so needless to say the options appear to be few based on our google searches. (The link you provided is in Nova Scotia) We found one that is similar to what you describe, but they charge an additional fee for each person less than 100, and at 25-30 guests we found that to be more than we wanted to pay. I will definitely continuing looking at this option though!

I third the suggestion of a local restaurant catering. Depending on what you want and where you get it it may end up being cheaper!

If we were having a summer wedding we would definitely do something like this. In Manitoba we had a company that did pig roasts they would come with either an entire pig or smaller portions. I quickly googled and found this, http://www.piggingoutcateringservices.ca/index.html I am sure with more research you could find more. Another option would be to contact smaller restaurants and see if they cater.

Perhaps look into local, family owned restaurants? For only 25 adult meals, I would imagine there are some options out there for a local restaurant to cater some BBQ food. Caterers might have base charges, serving charges, etc... I would look into the smaller companies (be friends with Google)... I'm not sure what the options are out on the east coast...
    Good luck!
