Backyard wedding

Shla, on February 6, 2019 at 22:02 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5
Has anyone had/having a small, backyard wedding? We have considered it heavily as we have so fre people that matter to us. We'd love some real life experiences.

What did you like about it? What was the hardest part of the planning? Any regrets?

My friend/bridesmaid is going this route - hers is a casual, intimate wedding where as mine is more elegant and larger guest count. Her wedding is at the end of June, it was originally going to be in Early August but it would've been too hot probably. My parents got married in a church with no A/C in mid July with the humidex of 37C (without was 32C)

I think the best months for an outdoor/backyard event would be June and September, for Southern Ontario. My FH and I went to a backyard wedding in early September in Thunder Bay and it got chilly throughout the night but the tent was heated. I'm not familiar with your area but I would take into account average daytime highs and nighttime lows for the months you're looking at.

Well, for the moment we're planning a bigger December wedding but we're considering the option of not waiting and narrowing it down to this.

I think somewhere between July and the end of September.

What month are you looking at to get married? I figure that the weather will be what it is and to have a good back-up plan in place! Your wedding sounds like it's going to be so nice and intimate!

That all makes sense. Weather is my biggest concern. But the potties are a good point!

We aren't having a bridal party. Just myself and my daughter walking down the aisle and my fiance at the end waiting. We're looking at about 20 people at most including us if we go this route - almost an elopement haha.

I haven't had one but I've attended one and the big things that stood out were:

    1) Toilets. They rented "luxury" port-a-potties for the occasion so it meant that no one went inside the house.

    2) The musician who was a friend of the bride and groom didn't show up, therefore the music for the night was off a laptop and we all took turns choosing songs.

    3) The caterers didn't provide everything they promised, and there were no "venue managers" to handle the situation.

    4) The bridal party was insanely big for the amount of guests that were there. Please if you have a backyard wedding and a bridal party ensure that the ratio is appropriate. At this particular wedding there were roughly 60 guests and 12 of them were in the bridal party... it was weird.

I think for me I don't like how quickly a backyard type of wedding can get disorganized and there being nowhere to turn to correct it.
