Average Venue Prices

Abbie, on October 19, 2020 at 07:33 Posted in Nova Scotia 0 11
Hi all!

I know this is going to vary greatly, but I’m trying to set a budget and struggling with venues not getting back to me. I was wondering what a rough average budget for a venue might look like in Nova Scotia. We will be getting married in early summer, with a guest list of 50 people.
Thanks! Smiley smile

I’m actually trying to get in touch with Acadia about that ☺️ Right now it sounds like they only rent to alumni/students though :/

Also just saw you're in Kentville, maybe Acadia has a Greenspace/ hall you could use since its outside of the school year?

I think it may vary by municipality, but in Amherst, they do not charge for use of the park, we just have to fill out a form explaining who is using it, when and for how long, etc... which definitely keeps the costs down! We just emailed our town hall and asked about the process.
They did say that because its a public space they/we cannot stop people from using the park, but in our case its a park that isn't a main town feature so my fiance and I aren't too worried.

Also, for our reception, the fire hall had an email for hall rentals that we inquired through.

    Hi Bethany,

Thank you so much for your insight! The town hall idea is definitely a good one. How did you go about permissions for the ceremony in the park? What were the associated costs/permissions?

It was the starting price for Lightfoot and Wolfville. Beautiful place but definitely not worth the cost if you're only having 50 guests.

Feel free to reach out to me here if you have questions about any venues! I've got a few quotes in my email still from some barn venues we were looking at before we changed our minds on the vibe.

    Hi Michelle,

Thanks for your response! That is a crazy range!! Can I ask which location was 10,000? That’s way outside our budget and no one has been updating me with pricing so saves me chasing someone way out of my price range Smiley smile

It will depend on if you are looking for an all-inclusive venue, if they cater, is it for ceremony and reception or just one or the other fore sure. For myself and my fiance, we are looking to keep things on the cheap side and stay in town (we are a couple hours outside of Halifax). We are doing our ceremony in one of our town's parks, and then we are having the reception across the street at our town's fire hall. The space is a blank slate, which can easily be made unique with decorations! Fire/Community halls could be a good idea if you aren't looking for anything extravagant. Renting our hall for the day, with the addition of adding a bartender (they look after the license and we just have to purchase/supply the booze) is just under $300 in our town. This is simply the use of the space, the liquor license and one bartender; catering, DJ, decorations, etc... are all extra, but this leaves room in the budget for decorations, flowers, lights, etc to make it our own.

Alternatively, perhaps museums or restaurants (depending on guest list size) can be an option.

All the best in your searches!

From what I found when looking for venues in NS, the range is insane.

I have St Mary's Boat club booked for my reception, which is costing just under $900 total. We also have the Waegwoltic Club booked for the ceremony, which is $1000 for ceremony only.

Depending on what you are looking for, and if your venue choice is all inclusive or allows you to bring in food and alcohol. We looked at a few that were in the $**** range, and also one that was $10 000, which got crossed off the list pretty quickly.
