August 2021 - Live bands? Restrictions on dancing?

Rosemary, on March 14, 2021 at 16:35 Posted in Ontario 0 6

HI all,

Third time we will be postponing due to COVID, and we hope to go ahead with our wedding at the end of August 2021.

By then most people will likely have had at least a first shot of the vaccine.

Should we expect that live bands will still be banned with restrictions? What about dancing (if we remain distanced / have signs on the dance floor?

What are the live bands and/ or dancing/ DJ restrictions according to zones (red, orange, green zone restrictions) ?

Seems to me that "dancing with restrictions" is under the discretion of your local health unit/venue. I reached out to my local health unit and they informed me that dancing was permitted in Green Zone with masks and social distancing between households. Maybe send your local health unit an email and see if they can clarify for you!

    Hi Melissa,

Apologies, I thought I replied to you before, but it doesn't seem to have gone through.

Yes, this is exactly what I am wondering too. So many of the zones say "dancing with restrictions", but, like you, I can't find what those restrictions are...

Crossing my fingers our case counts go down with rising vaccinations...

I am also very curious about this topic. We are living in an area that is in "yellow". I see that dancing is permitted but with restrictions. Can anyone share further facts about what these restrictions might be?

Does it mean being masked? Only limited to members of the same household or maybe father/daughter, mother/son? Or does it mean socially distanced like Rosemary mentioned in her first post above?

I'm not going to attempt to guess what zone you'll be in because my guess is as good as anyone else's. Sure, vaccines can help things but variants can also bring things come crashing down. In your case, your proximity to Quebec also doesn't help.

The good news is, you don't need to be in the Green zone for a band to potentially work. Hired musicians are allowed to play in Orange zones as long as they adhere to certain restrictions. I wouldn't count on dancing though. I feel like it's still too volatile of a situation to allow such activity. In my opinion, it's probably the one of the last things other than mask wearing to be lifted.

I realize right now that is where we are with restrictions, but assuming we get into a green zone by late August (we are in Ottawa), taking into account that most vaccines are fairly effective even after 1 dose, do people think they will ease the restriction and permit distanced dancing?

We have had a band booked since Fall 2019 (for summer 2020, but of course had to postpone our wedding). We already paid them a large down payment. Of course we will cancel them if we have to, but trying to look ahead to the likelihood that these restrictions will ease (or not)?

Most regions in the GTA have explicitly prohibited dancing and singing. Hired bands can play with restrictions (behind barriers) in certain zones with lighter restrictions.

Best to consult guidelines of your local public health unit. If possible, I wouldn't book bands or plan on dancing until things are absolutely cleared to do so.
