Are you paying for your Wedding Party's Drinks at your Wedding? 🥂

Julie, on February 11, 2019 at 20:53 Posted in Wedding reception 0 15
Our Parents are going to do a 1 hour and a half host bar during cocktail hour. This is when we'll be having our pics taken. Likely our Wedding Party will be able to enjoy free bar for maybe 45 min. We have 12 in our Wedding Party not including us. We are paying for our Parents drinks all night as it's the least we can do with all the amazing help they are giving us. My FH and I are thinking of buying the Wedding Party drink tickets at approximately $7.00 a ticket. I asked at our venue how many tickets are Bridal Couples normally buying and was surprised when she said most don't... We are thinking 3 tickets each which is already more than we can afford but we know how expensive it is to be in a Wedding Party. Do you think 2 or 3 tickets is enough?

Open bar so happy I won’t need to worry about that but if I wasn’t I would pay for 3 drinks each person in bridal party after that they on their own.

Nope. We did 2 drink tickets per guest, that's everyone across the board, and a bottle of red and a bottle of white on each table. And a champagne toast.

We didn't pay extra for anyone else's drinks, mainly because it was too expensive, and also the biggest drinkers at the wedding were our wedding party, so it would literally break the bank... haha.

I'd say maybe give them one extra drink ticket for missing part of the cocktail hour... but honestly, they don't need extra just because they are the wedding party.

We will be covering cost for parents and wedding party. It's just a way to say thank you from us is how we see it. We have a smaller wedding party though! There will be 8 old enough to drink from our wedding party- then our parents.

We're doing an open bar, so we are paying for everyone's drinks in a way lol.

I would think 3 tickets would be good, 2 if they are able to get the the host bar but photos can run late.

Wow, that's so cheap! At our venue $18 won't buy 3 drinks.

At the price of that bar, I would say that is fine. Our bar is $5 a drink and ill prop give 3 or 4 each. My parents have helped a lot with the wedding so they won't be paying.

We are hosting our own toonie bar (we can bring in our own liquor), and so will be giving each of our wedding party 5-10 tickets (we expect our reception to go from about 5 pm to 1 or 2 am).

Given that, I'd say that 3 tickets for your wedding party is fine!

I agree with you both. Thank you for your advice and help. With 38 days to go a lot of final payments are due starting next week so it's a lot. If we could manage to pay for their drinks all night, we would. My Friend had 4 of us in her Wedding party, 1 was me moh and I am not a big drinker. Her bar tab was over $700... that was 8 years ago and in a cheaper venue. Never mind us at a Country Club with 14 in our Wedding party including ourselves, 2 sets of Parents and our MC.

We are doing a cash bar and have decided to buy special bottles for our parents of whatever their favourite liquor is. Bridal party is on their own, unfortunately.

There was a package where open bar was included but it was way out of our budget. It would've been approx $250 a couple...

We will be having an open bar paid by me and my FH - but I think that for the type of bar you have chosen that the 3 drinks is what I would give them. Like Bianca said, who knows for sure if they will have time to get to the host bar during cocktail hour? Maybe have 2 drink tickets ready for everybody and if they don't have time to get a couple drinks during the host bar then add the 3rd ticket in?

I think that's a fair amount to give them! I would personally lean more on the 3 tickets per person since they might not be able to utilize the host bar at all (if pictures run long and whatnot).
