Are lawn games worth it?

Jonelle, on February 12, 2021 at 21:22 Posted in Wedding reception 0 9

I'm wondering what people think of lawn games? I'm debating renting some for my cocktail hour.. However, do people find them worth renting / making: are they used or end up ignored, do people think they are tacky or fun? And if you are pro lawn games, which games are you a fan of? I like the idea of the cornhole game but I was also curious how people like ladder golf or croquet?

Anyway, leave me your thoughts!

Okay, thank you!! That's exactly it, I feel I would love to play lawn games at a wedding so I'm really hoping my guests respond similar to your experience with them! Smiley smile

I am having Jenga and yard Yahtzee. I played games at wedding I went to and it was the highlight of the wedding for me.

Ladderball is super fun, we'll be putting it out along with cornhole. Yard jenga is also great! I figure yard games are an easy alternative to dancing and hopefully helps draw people outside to enjoy the nice views at our venue.

Is your reception outdoors or indoors? If your reception is completely outdoors and they're directly accessible to the crowd, it's not a bad idea. But if most people are inside, they might not purposely trek outside for lawn games. And depending on where your venue is situated, bugs could be an issue, which would deter guests from going outside (they're particularly bad starting around dusk into the evening, especially if you're near water).

I thought about it, and we're going to leave them out for the whole reception: I just figured they might get the most attention during the cocktail hour - but I do like the idea that they can be an alternative to dancing! Thank you all for the comments Smiley smile

Our reception venue has an outdoor yard and we plan on putting some games out there. My dad has giant jenga and a couple friends have offered some other games. I think it will be a fun activity for those who don't want to dance. But if it is just for 1 hour I dunno if it would be worth it. Can you have them out for the entire reception?

If it's just for an hour, then I wouldn't bother. An hour goes by pretty quick with drinks and nibbles.

Outdoor Jenga with 2x4's is pretty fun!
