Apps or dinner

Tara, on October 15, 2017 at 09:16 Posted in Wedding reception 0 7
Hi lovelies,
Everyone was so helpful before, I have another question for you.
I am looking at reducing costs. I was thinking the following time line/food but am unsure how against etiquette this is!
Ceremony at 6pm Photos at 630pmH'orsdeuvres from 630 -730pmThen a late night snack buffet type thing at 8:30-9 o'clock. (Grilled cheese, pogos, poutine)
I want to avoid doing a sit down dinner(seating plan would be ridiculous due to family drama, & my partner and I are not that fancy.)
I'm just worried this would be a terrible faux pas & how to word it so that people understand.
Thanks,T

We are doing something similar but from 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm. Maybe start things a bit later? Cocktails, food platters, and servers walking around with nice hors deurves. Affordable too, $24/pp.

Buffet style is a reduced cost or even a late night barbeque style wedding! I know many couples that have done that and catering services that will do that as well

It sounds like a great idea! I think it shouldnt be an issue as long as you letthe guests know ahead of time to eat dinner before the ceremony Smiley smile

As long as people are made aware that it’s only finger foods/snacks (so they can eat a meal before arriving), then it should be fine.

    Hi Sonja!
The date isn't 100% set in stone yet. I used one pretty far away for reference. My partner and I already own a home and have some major renovations to do, as with his work we could be posted at any time so that is pri1.
Once we have a lot of the ducks in a row for the house, then we will look at setting a firm date probably only about 3-4 years away. I want to be able to comfortably pay for everything in cash.
Thanks for the advice! Smiley smile

Hi Tara, according to your profile, your wedding is 6 years away!! You will probably change your mind several times before you even send out the invitations. When you do send them, make sure you write on them something like, "Cocktail reception with Hordeuvres following the ceremony" so that people know to eat dinner before they come. Just curious, why did you decide on such a long engagement?

I really don't think etiquette is as rigid as it used to be. I would say in a situation like that just make sure there are places for people to sit so they have the option and have lots to drink so they have something "in their hand"
