Anyone else Diying out there? ☠️

Phaidra, on January 16, 2019 at 22:43 Posted in DIY 0 34
Hey bbies. Hope your wedding stuff is going good.
I'm really lucky in that my FH is super on board with all the diy and stuff.
This week our diy is to make *checks over notes* cups.
Yep.
You read that right.
200+
F&$+ing.
Cups.

Idk, I think it's cool, but like...that's a lot of wine bottles to find, and cut, and sand.

So. How's your DiYING going? I'm lending you my strength. We can get through this.

I did a lot of research to see which type of fabric flowers I preferred and then I found YouTube tutorials to get the instructions and then altered them on my own to get the size of flowers I needed. (The burlap roses, I already knew how to do, but I'm sure there are YouTube videos for those too!)

Did you follow a website or a book to get the instructions?

Hard, no...but they were tedious. There's a lot of cutting involved (some of them use several small pieces) and you have to run the edges over a candle flame to curl them, that gives them their texture. It took quite a bit of time, but I would just throw on a movie and work away at it haha.
The burlap roses were super easy though, I can finish one of those in a couple of minutes!
It was definitely worth it though, I made all of the bouquets (4), boutonnieres (9) and a wrist corsage for the mother's for $145...and that included all fabric and supplies!!

I made the flowers out of polyester satin and some out of burlap, the leaves I purchased at Michael's.
These are the bridesmaids bouquets. Mine is a traditional style bouquet made from the same flowers. The boutonnieres are made from the burlap flowers, and wrapped in ribbon.

How did you make the boutonnières and corsages? Did you just buy fake flowers?

I'm going to DIY as much of my wedding as I can. So far, I made the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, wedding favours (hand poured candles), vases for the centerpieces, as well as candles for the centerpieces, bar and menu signs, thank you cards, cake topper, bunting to hang in the barn, and several games to have out in the yard for guests to play. I still have a long list of things to do but am starting to have nightmares on the regular about things not turning out. I've decided to hire out flowers for the centerpieces as well as invites (got them on sale through vistaprint for half price!!). Gotta save myself some stress somewhere, as I'm not good to anyone if I quit sleeping hahaha

I'm totally DIYing my centerpieces, i'm thinking fairy lights in vases with flowers in them, and my wedding favours, Popcorn jars, or smores packages. There's so many good cheap places to get stuff. I'm so ready for the making part, but don't want to start buying stuff until I know how many people/tables there will be. Though I have totally already made the bouquets, cheap flowers from Michaels and ribbon to tie the stems together, was super easy!

I haven’t made a whole lot yet, just made my honeymoon fund jar we starting filling with cash here and there! I also made my save the dates to save some money. I ordered my invites, RSVP cards and reception cards, because I got 1/4 of the way though my STD and was already so tired of it lol! But I had fun with them anyway.

That is amazing and a little bit crazy (in the best way possible). You guys are rock stars for doing that. I think that is an incredibly sentimental and everlasting memory that you both are creating. I am DIYing quite a few things but not anything spectacular like that. Best wishes!!

I am doing a bit of Diy

I found a whole suite on Etsy for our invitations/RSVP/Thank you cards/seating chart/table numbers etc so I have been printing all of those (never been more happy that I bought a paper cutter!)

I'm also making some chalk board tic-tac-toe boards for during the reception (one side will be painted tic tac toe board and the other will be blank for drawing)

We are doing a sort of DIY photo booth...in that we bought a selfie stick and a bunch of props and people can do it themselves with their phones.

I bought some string lights meant for wine bottles off of Amazon (the tops fit in the bottle like a cork) that we are going to use along the bar

I also found a bunch of 8" x 10" frames at a thrift shop that I am going to re-paint and use for random things (cupcake flavours, specialty drink list, etc)

We have plans to DIY some photos on mason jars, some hula hoop with lights and put some wood onto signs so they stand up on their own, no easels required (fingers crossed)

I will be DIYing so many things.

    1. Bustle my wedding dress.

    2. Might change the wedding dress to corset back (depends on the fit closer to wedding day).

    3. Wedding Veil.

    4. A white dancing dress (I will change to dancing dress for the first dance cause we will be doing swing dance)

    5. My bridesmaids short dresses plus detachable long skirts for the ceremony.

    6. Invitations.

    7. Bouquets and boutonnieres.

    8. Wedding favours.

I ordered some supplies off of Amazon to make centerpieces! I don't have any projects to work on in the near future, besides invitations at some point.

I'm just about to order my silk flowers, but that's about it for DIY at this point. Most of my projects will be done over the summer.
