Any thoughts on premarital counselling?

Olivia, on June 30, 2016 at 17:18 Posted in Before the wedding 0 8

Premarital counselling is not required where we are getting married, but my mom and grandma told me about their experience doing their premarital course at church. I know it might be old fashioned but the way they talk about it, it seemed to be really helpful in their relationship. I have been with my FH for 6 years and we have been living together for almost 2 years, so I just don’t know how relevant it could be at this point... Have you done premarital counselling? Any thoughts?

Hey Fikayo! Welcome to the community! Smiley heart I'm so glad you're sharing your experience. Where did you do your pre-marital course? How long does it last?

    Hi Olivia,

I think pre-marital councelling is a wonderful idea. It has definately helped my fiancee and I. Whether church or no, it's helpful to take. It's all just great advice. You're to apply what is discussed to your relationship as You see fit, so I say go for it. Smiley smile

Hi Olivia,I have never done pre-martial courses but my fiancé and I will be taking part in one in November. I feel it is great idea as it can help to strengthen a relationship entering into marriage.

We've been doing our pre martial classes now for two weekends, I think it's helpful and for couples to do especially if they have never lived together

I bet if you were interested a marriage counseller might offer a similar program, but outside of a church. Might be worth a google just to see!

We have been together for almost 5 years, and living together for 1.5 or so; we are not planning on taking any courses. We have worked through many situations together, and have made it a point to discuss "the important things", I I think we are quite comfortable in our choice to marry.

I know that in Toronto you can't get married in rhe Catholic Church without doing a Pre-Cana. So far it's been a really great experience and we have met some nice people. I recommend couples to do this.

Thanks Maddy! I just don't know where I could do it if I'm not getting married at church like my mom or grandma
