Anniversary Dance

Tara, on June 23, 2019 at 21:19 Posted in Wedding reception 0 14
I have a number of family and friends who live common law (after 6 months, in our province; if a child is born to the couple, regardless of length of time living together).

My question is, we are having the anniversary dance where the married couples get up and get booted off, for the longest marriage. I want to include these common law, since they are quite long as well (aunt and her partner have been together nearly 8 years).

Is this weird, impolite, or abnormal?

Maybe instead of saying longest marriage say longest relationship because that includes common law couples.

I was hoping my DJ might have some ideas about what I want. I chose four songs, one from 2010, 2000, 1990, and 1980. Either a mash up of these with proper fading, or each song. They are:
    I Won’t Let Go - Rascal Flatts
    Everything - Michael Buble
    More Than Words - Extreme
One In A Million You - Larry Graham

I don't think it's weird or impolite at all. What song are you going to use?

Its all good since its couples get to be on the dance floor regardless they are married or common law. It about the fun with everyone you enjoy.

Yah, I’m not going to let my good friend invite “just some guy.”

I’m definitely going to ask for common law or married, not just relationships. I have a few friends who are “dating, but no one significant” and we planned not to invite their “date”.

Definitely a good idea to be inclusive of those in common-law relationships! Just be like "everyone in a relationship, get up and dance", then go from there booting people off lol.

Honestly, a few of them are going on like ..oh man. 15 years maybe? My ring bearer (adult) and his boyfriend have been common law since shortly after high school (2004).

Awesome! Currently, 42 of our 70 guests count as the married anniversary dance participants, and adding common law makes it 50!
