Alcohol Amounts at Reception

Arden, on March 28, 2023 at 16:40 Posted in Before the wedding 0 7

Hi Everyone!

One of my biggest stressors with the wedding is making sure we have enough bevies for the reception. I've done the Google searches but find them to be quite vague so I'm wondering if anyone on here is willing to share what they purchased for a 100 person wedding?

So far we've bought 100 cans of White Claw.

We still need beer, vodka, rum and wine.

Half of our guests aren't big drinkers but I would say that the other half are.

Thank you!

They should be good for returning individual cans/bottles of beer and cider too, if that's the case. Same with unopened wine.

Our venue provided all of our alcohol so we didn't have to bring any.

We had 39 guests at our wedding including my husband and I. Between 5pm and 1130pm we had 116 drinks total

Thanks, maybe I'll look for a better one than what I've found so far. This is what I'm worried about, people drinking more then we think! And it's summer, so will people drink more white wine than red? More white claw than beer? So much to think about! Smiley smile

If we buy from the BC Liquor Store I do think we can do returns. This will be good for the hard liquor since we're not big hard liquor drinkers but want some options for people at the wedding.

    Hi Arden!

I think if you google Alcohol Calculator, there are a couple that pop up online, I found some of these helpful as you can enter in number of guests and estimate roughly the percentage of people that will most likely drink wine, beer, liquors, and non alcoholic, along with if they are "light drinkers"/"heavy drinkers" or "average" and it generates a total for each.

We had a much smaller wedding (25 people) but honestly, everyone drank much more than I thought they would and I was worried about not having enough so I luckily added alcohol days before and I'm so glad I did. Be prepared for people to come to party but good point above, best if you can return unopened.

Does your provincial alcohol store allow returns for unopened products? In Ontario, we can return unopened items to the LCBO and if that's the case with you, don't worry about over-purchasing as you can return it.

How long is your reception? A good general rule is one drink per person per hour.
