Alberta! Wedding officiant

Kirsten, on February 27, 2020 at 10:50 Posted in Alberta 1 9
I just wanted to inform all my alberta brides that now ANYONE can apply to be a wedding officiant for your wedding, application is free and they can not charge you to be your officiant. We did the application for my fiance's best friend to do ours, applied on a thursday and was approved on a tuesday.

That's great! Whatever works for you Smiley smile I just know it is a bit of a cost saving measure and a sentimental thing so wanted to make sure everyone knows!

Ours really isn't much of a religious service. My FH has only been to church once with us (& that's cause his mom made the entire family go after she lost her husband). But the pastor we chose is super nice & isn't too formal

Makes sense! I know that a condition for this one is that it can not be a religious service, so it might be easier to stick with your pastor!

That's great. I'm tempted, but since the church is our back up for poor weather (outside wedding), it just makes sense to keep our pastor as our officiant

I too am thrilled about this! And it's good to know that the applications are being processed so quickly!

However this is a pilot program which will be re-evaluated in the spring (so it may be ended or changes may be made to it). I spoke with service Alberta about this, and they said so long as the application is approved before the program is re-evaluated they cannot revoke the appointment. So for anyone who is interested in doing this and getting married in the summer or later, apply soon to be sure.

Yah we paid for our officiant as well because when we looked they weren't allowing it and we won't get the money back but are still having his best friend do it, more sentimental for us and still out the same amount of money

I'm happy about this, although I wish I knew last year, I booked my officiant last year (wedding in July), but I really wanted my friend to do it. Everything I read said she wouldn't be able to, but now they changed them & I could've had her be the one.
