Airbnb Venue

Deborah, on January 25, 2021 at 20:46 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 5
Hi Everyone!

Did anyone rent an Airbnb in or near Toronto with a big backyard to host a small ceremony? If so, any suggestions? Our wedding is planned for this June, but the venue is indoors. With all the uncertainty and restrictions, we are potentially looking at having a small outdoor ceremony, but don’t want to spend too much. TIA

An Airbnb around the Toronto area may vary where you look and get ideas. Towards the north will give you space of greenery you want and space to have your wedding. A suggestion of looking into Innisfil and Muskoka areas for families to enjoy the outdoors is nice too.

I did this in Nova Scotia this past October. I communicated our plans throughly with the Airbnb host before booking to make sure they were okay with it. We had 15 people total including our Justice of the Peace which was under the gathering limit allowed in our province at the time. And we only had a small ceremony and pictures at the airbnb before going out to dinner as a small group

If you're exploring the backyard wedding option, don't forget about your officiant and the photographer as they count toward your gathering limit. So if the limit is 10, you can only invite 6 more once you factor in those two and you two as the couple.

If you're around the 15 people mark, would you consider booking a restaurant? Some of them have rooftops and sectioned off outdoor spaces. The Granite Brewery comes to mind, as they have an outdoor area in the back for wedding ceremonies that you can convert to a reception by ordering food from their menu.

Yes, understood. It would depend on the outdoor gathering limit, but we were only looking to have 10-15 people and have a bbq after. We live in a condo, so we were looking for some other options. Thanks for your input.

Airbnbs have banned all weddings on their listed properties indefinitely.

Gathering limits are different for staffed businesses vs a private dwelling. Provided we get to a stage where you can have a substantial amount of people gathering outside in a backyard, it still won't be as many as you can have inside a staffed business like banquet hall and meeting space.

Any rule regarding wedding ceremonies also do not apply if done in a backyard. Your home gathering rule (max 5 or 10 depending on circumstance) will kick in.
