Afterparty?

Jodi, on September 5, 2017 at 11:05 Posted in Wedding reception 0 9

Hello Brides Smiley smile

So our wedding is going to be a cocktail style wedding (minus the cocktails) we love the venue and the package deal we were able to do as it was beautiful and affordable. The wedding for our guests would be from 1:00-4:00 with cake, first dance, food etc...

now I think most people expect to drink at a wedding- if we do this at our venue we would be adding on the cost of busses to and from our venue, the booze, insurance and a bartender; this is something we are considering.

Because our wedding is such a small time frame would you think it would be a good idea to have somewhat of an after party somewhere? if so how would you keep costs down? Perhaps the guests would be happy with this time frame and carry on with their weekends .. just wondering what your thoughts would be as I don't have much experience at all with cocktail weddings.

Thanks

That's fair. As it's not your actual wedding I would assume that people may figure out that you aren't covering it but you could always just say so when inviting people.

I don't know why i'm stressing this fact so much? I guess I just don't want to disappoint anyone.

I wouldn't expect a drink at an afternoon wedding!

That's also a good idea Erin. Do you think with that people would expect food and beverages on us? unfortunatly its not something we would be able to foot the bill for, for everyone Smiley sad

I think you should rent out a room at a local restaurant and invite people to join you there after the wedding. At this point people will drive themselves and you are no longer responsible for hiring buses or insurance etc.

    Thanks Leslie,

I know that for us we just want to cut down costs as much as we can. Included for the "cocktail" reception would be some nice punch and lemonade. to add booze we would be adding atleast 1000 as transportation would have to be included. I guess im assuming that all guests would expect to drink at a wedding..

I think at that time of day, you don't need to serve alcohol. I would have a nice punch and coffee. You can have a champagne toast just to make it festive. I definitely wouldn't have a full bar, maybe just wine if you want to have something. I don't think it's necessary.

It is for 60 people. And that might be a good idea.. meet at a pub and have some drinks with whomever wants to join us for an after party. id imagine you would have to prebook that. in doing that would you still do drinks at the venue or forgo them till the after party. we are trying to save money.

    Thanks for your suggestion

How many people is it for? Are you having a dinner afterwards for a smaller group? You can always say you're having an after party at a local pub or something. I think it's a fun idea unless it's on a Sunday.
