Advice Needed

Msss, on March 20, 2020 at 17:25 Posted in Before the wedding 0 5

Hello everyone,

My fiancé and I have had to deal with the horrible misfortune of being double booked not too long ago. We did a lot of work on our end to coordinate the new date with all of our vendors. Now, because of this virus, we may be forced to select a new date yet again - but this time for both the bridal shower (booked for the end of April) and the wedding (re-booked for the middle of August).

We have spent money on 2 save the dates, bridal shower invitations, and the wedding invitations that we prepared in February and planned on sending out in May. To think that we may have to send out a third save the date, a second bridal shower invitation, and a second wedding invitation is causing us some stress - not to mention reaching out to all of our vendors again to re-coordinate.

Safety comes first, we understand. We just don't want to pick another date and then be forced to change it for a third time because the viral outbreak has worsened or remained the same. We aren't sure if we should just pick 2 backup dates for the bridal shower and wedding or just pick new dates altogether for 2021, hoping that after one year + this has all been sorted and a vaccine has been created and distributed.

Sorry - I know it is a bit of a vent. The uncertainty of it all is causing us the most stress. It's difficult to know what the right decision is at this point.

Thanks everyone, we purchased a wedding website subscription after we sent out the Save the Dates the second time; it (the site info.) is currently noted on our wedding invitations, which won't be sent out anytime soon - especially now. I think we may have to begin to collect everyone's telephone numbers (we mostly have addresses).

As mentioned below, trying to remain positive but bogged down. It's just so difficult because we just don't know.

    Hi Amelia,

Thank you for the recommendation - her video was comforting.

We are slowly wrapping our heads around the current reality (specifically, its uncertainty) as well as the potential reality of postponing. We've selected a back-up date for my shower, which would come into affect April 1 if the circumstances remain the same or worsen. We still need to select a wedding back-up date.

I keep thinking, "think positive!" but I feel bogged down - actively trying to avoid the news right now.

Ya, I second the electronic route to keep guests updated. And hold out before sending physical invitations again until the dust settles a bit and things become more clear. Or maybe think about sending invites electronically as well.

I wouldnt redo invitations. i would make a website like pay for it and update it with the most relevant info and dates and email everything to your guests.

Don't worry about dates so far out yet.

You might need to postpone the shower, but wait before you cancel any of the wedding stuff. Pick a date when you are allowed to cancel/re-rebook that's closer to 8 weeks out. Until then just sit tight and maybe don't spend on wedding things unless they can be saved for a potentially later date.
Jamie Wolfer on YouTube had a great post about weddings and the virus I would check it out. It gives you a good plan of action of you do need to cancel.
