Advice: Early or Later Wedding

Lindsay, on August 1, 2019 at 17:11 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 12
Hi all,

I need some advice. My fiancé and I have our venue booked for our ceremony and reception for April 18, 2020.

Both events are taking place at the same venue. Right now we have the Lakeside Gazebo booked for noon (picture 1) however we are having some doubts that it might be too early. We have our reception hall booked until midnight and we know that 12 hours is too long for a wedding. We really like the lakeside gazebo however we can’t book it for a later time.

Instead our planner from the hall said that we can book the Terrace Gazebo (picture 2) for either 2:00 or 4:00 if we want a later wedding.

Both are beautiful locations but I’m torn as to what I want (earlier wedding with lakeside gazebo) or later venue with terrace gazebo.

As a result im asking for advice. Is 12 too early for a wedding? Would you as a guest rather attend an earlier wedding or later one?

We are having a small wedding of only 60 people so we couldn’t book the greenhouse. We have the conservatory room and have the 3pm time slot for the Terrace Gazebo!

Was the Greenhouse available for your date and guest list size? My wedding will be at the same venue in October 2020 in the greenhouse down by the lakeside gazebo and if your wedding is booked for the greenhouse then you automatically get the last (4pm) slot at the lakeside gazebo.

For a day wedding with an early supper (I would suggest ceremony and reception outside) I would go for the noon wedding. If you prefer an evening wedding (supper regular hours) I would go for the later ceremony. Both gazebos look the same, only difference is the background behind it, which are both beautiful! Don’t forget to take into account that the sunlight is a lot harsher at noon (for your pictures). If you do the later ceremony, you get to take golden hour pictures at sunset!

I vote for the Lakeside Gazebo with an earlier wedding. Both venues are pretty but the Lakeside has more dramatic background (great view and great for photos!) . If you start the wedding early, you can also end the reception earlier

Personally I would go for the later ceremony just so guests aren’t waiting around all day while you guys are off taking pictures etc.
If you were at a church and then reception you could get away with an earlier ceremony.
    Both locations are super beautiful!

The terrace gazebo is gorgeous! And it would be better for the guest experience to have it closer to the reception. But ultimately, do what makes you happy. It’s your wedding!

If we are talking about what we would do.... I would probably go with the Terrace Gazebo anyway. I love the on the water look of the lakeside one (heck, I'm getting married on the river on a dock) but it's so closed off that not only would it suck to have a 12 hour wedding (plus you would have to wake up WAY earlier for a noon wedding) but the gazebo looks so closed off that guests won't all be able to see the two of you.

The terrace gazebo is still gorgeous. And I agree, noon is too early, your guests will appreciate the later ceremony time!

Yes later timing for the wedding is fine so you don't have a large gap in between for reception to start and go until midnight.

I had the same though we were only told that 4:30pm could be the wedding no earlier with the latest time until 1:00am.

Do the 4:00pm wedding and then go into the reception followed by pictures if going that route. Love the Lakeside Gazebo by the way.

Seeing that the reception/ceremony are at the same venue, I'd opt for a later wedding. The terrace gazebo is still really pretty, maybe ask if the lakeside gazebo will be available for photos before/after your ceremony.

Our ceremony/reception is at the same venue (different areas) and our ceremony is 3-3:30pm with our cocktail hour starting at 5:30pm. Guests still have 2 hours between events but even that seems lengthy, especially with no driving between venues.

Oh man that is a super tough decision! Wonder why the lakeside one is only available for noon ceremonies...

I see why this is making the decision so tough; the lakeside option is stunning. But the terrace one is also super beautiful. Honestly...whatever you decide will look amazing. As a guest though, I think a later ceremony around 2 or 4. Especially if the reception is in the same location...That's a long time between events to have nothing to do.

Are you doing a first look before the ceremony? Can you use the lakeside gazebo for photos?
